Le Souvenir Français

Le Souvenir Français is an association founded in 1887 whose main mission is to perpetuate and transmit the memory of soldiers who died fro France. This association, made up of volunteers, watches over, maintains and restores the graves of the « Died for France » fighters, buried in municipal cemeteries, as well as those, civilians, who served France well.
The action of Le Souvenir Français, and more particularly in our sector, of the Albert committee is structured around several axes :

1. Maintenance of graves and monuments : Le Souvenir Français volunteers ensure the regular maintenance of military graves in municipal cemeteries throughout France, as well as memorial monuments dedicated to soldiers who died in combat. This includes cleaning, renovating and enhancing these sites to ensure a dignified and respectful tribute.

2. Educational and cultural actions : The association carries out educational and cultural actions to raise awareness among new generations on the importance of the remembrance. Initiatives such as conferences, exhibitions and publications aim to convey the history of conflicts and remember the sacrifices made for freedom. Le Souvenir Français intervenes in schools in partnership with National Education and finances trips for students to places of memory.

3. Commemorative ceremonies : Le Souvenir Français actively participates in national and local commemoration ceremonies, particularly during the anniversaries of major conflicts. These events allow us to pay tribute to fallen soldiers and keep collective memory alive.

4. Defense of memorial heritage : The association is also committed to safeguarding memorial heritage linked to wars and conflicts. This includes the preservation of historical sites belonging to it, burials and objects that bear witness to the military history of France.
