German Cemetery, Fricourt

17 027 German soldiers lie in this cemetery. It was created at the beginning of the 1920s and for a short time, the Ace of the Aces Manfried Von Richthofen, a German pilot, better known as the Red Baron, was buried here. In 1925, his body was transferred to Berlin, before being finally buried in the family grave in Wiesbaden in 1975.

There are less German cemeteries than British or French ones, but it doesn’t mean that there are less losses.
