Red Dragon, Mametz

Would you fancy going to the village of Mametz to discover a hidden and fantastic creature in a wood?

It is a red dragon, emblem of Wales, on top of the 38th Welsh Division Memorial. This dragon with his wings in motion, spits fire and holds in his claws, barbed wire recalling the atrocity and fierceness of the fighting. It was inaugurated on July 11th, 1987.

Mametz Wood was a danger zone. The village held great German resistance that blocked all allied progress. The Welsh soldiers took it back on July 12th, 1916 after 8 days of violent fights and heavy losses.
