Souvenir Français Chapel

It on 1937 that « Le Souvenir Français » took the management of the Memorial Chapel located between Rancourt abd Bouchavesnes-Bergen, followinf the Du Bos Family.

The parents of Lieutenant Jean Du Bos had initiated the construction of this chapel, in order to honor the memory of their son, killed on September 25th 1916, and of his comrades, who died in combat.

Since 2023, this highly symbolic place of the Battle of the Somme has reopened its doors after a restoration campaign. An interpretation center on religions in the Great War has been created and is now freely accessible. You will be able to learn more about the role of religions in the midst of the horrors of war : moral support for soldiers, support for mourners or even the mobilization of military chaplains.

A high place for the Memory of the Great War, you will find behind the Chapel, the largest French necropolis in the Somme with 8 566 soldiers buried over 28 000m². This cemetery bears witness to the violence of the war, and more particularly the last 3 months of fighting in the Battle of the Somme.

A few meter away, opposite the Chapel of Souvenir Français, you will see the Rancourt British Cemetery.

Finally, two minutes away, on a parallel road, you will find one of the thirteen German cemeteries of the Somme.
