Thiepval Memorial

Thiepval, a memorial to the world heritage of humanity

This massive Memorial (45 meters high) is very important for British families. It is also the most majestic Commonwealth War Memorial in the world!

It pays tribute to the 70 000 men of British and South-African armies, who went missing in the Somme between July 1915 and March 1918.

The bodies of these poor young men have never been found.

Occasionally you might see bagpipes bands or fanfares coming to pay tribute to these soldiers.

Do not forget to have a look at the « Jardin de la Paix » (Peace garden), near the Visitor Centre and the Museum in the woods leading to the Memorial. It is a Welsh Garden built from Welsh oak and Portland stones. It is the right place to meditate and think about all what happened here.
