In reality, the origin of the French Fries is not Belgian, but rather French, and even Parisian ! In the 1800s, vendors selling fried foods set up around the Pont-Neuf, and they were the first to have the idea of plunging potatoes into frying oil.
Nonetheless, immortalized by Dany Boon's film Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis, the French Fries shack is part of the landscape of our region and that of our Belgian neighbors.
